SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Former Mayor of Springfield, Charlie Ryan, today announced his endorsement of Mary E. Hurley for Governor’s Council in the Eighth District.
“When she was mayor of Springfield she served with honor and distinction, Mary is respected throughout the entire legal community of Massachusetts and I am happy to endorse her for Governor’s Council,” said Former Mayor, Charlie Ryan. “As a judge Mary had an excellent reputation for fairness and compassion while still being mindful of the importance of public safety.”
Charlie Ryan is a former mayor of the city of Springfield, where he served from 1962-1967 and again from 2004-2008. He is the only Springfield mayor to serve in two different centuries, he was succeeded by current Mayor, Domenic Sarno.
“I have known Mary Hurley for many years,” said Ryan. “I am confident that Mary will be an outstanding member of the Governor’s Council, above all, she simply loves the community of western Massachusetts. I have never seen anyone with quite the amount of spirit and passion for both the law and public service.”
Hurley expressed gratitude for Ryan’s endorsement. “I am honored by Charlie’s kind words, he knows better than most the tough decisions that must be made in office, while also battling the regional equity barrier experienced here in western Massachusetts. I have dedicated my life to public service and the law, and I think it’s time that western Massachusetts was adequately represented by the Governor’s Council.”
