“I want all of my veteran colleagues to take note that I am backing Mary Hurley and her run for Governor’s Council,” said Gomez. “Her experience as both a judge and a mayor is essential, she will serve us well throughout the Commonwealth.”

“I have always been a staunch supporter of the veteran community,” said Hurley. “I think the veterans courts is an essential way to treat those who have served our great country, we need to look at ways to treat veterans and divert them from the criminal justice system. I am truly honored by Gumersindo’s confidence in my candidacy.”

Mary Hurley announced her bid for Governor’s Council in the fall of 2015 for the eighth district, which includes most of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties, along with the town of Royalston in Worcester County. Hurley served more than 19 years as a District Court Justice and also served two terms as Springfield’s first and only female mayor.
